Heather and Saint Grace have been featured in the Brand Watch for Knits of S/S 12 by the Stylesight Trendboard! Ambience/ShopAmbience.com knew about this trend years ago but we are glad these great designers are finally turning heads and getting the praise they deserve. Here is a bit of the praise with a few of our comments thrown in:

LA-based Heather designs fashion-forward knitwear pieces crafted from novelty heather yarns. This luxe T-shirt (dress and skirt) resource uses customized knits which are mixed and matched with a variety of other medium such as woven silks, leather, micro-polu chiffon, and high twist cottons. Cowl necklines, double layers, draped backs, twist fronts and cinching are some key design details paired with high-low or asymmetrical hems. Saint Grace is a collection of luxuriously soft, modern basics, both designed and produced in downtown Los Angeles. The entire community is invited to share in the spirit of the holidays during City Place's 1st annual Holiday Tree Lighting, which will include holiday music, live performances and give aways. Give aways include 15 holiday cookie jars compliments of Hallmark, filled with store coupons, candy & gift cards. Winners could also win a 2-week membership to Cando Fitness, a men's bracelet from Alain Jewelers, Ferry Tickets from the NY Waterwat, Gift Cards for dinner at Fleming's Steakhouse, Broadway show tickets and more.

A special guest will perform during the Tree Lighting. Angela Hunte, who wrote the song "Empire State of Mind" recorded by Jay-Z and Alicia Keys, will perform. Angela won a Grammy for writing the hit song, and has just returned from a tour of Japan. She is a very talented singer, song-writer and is a local resident of Edgewater. City Place is pleased and proud to have Angela participate in this holiday event.

In additional to the Tree Lighting, a food drive for the local Holy Rosary Food Bank will be underway that day. They need help all year but especially during the holidays. They have many people who have come to them for food and they need to replenish their food supply. The food can be dropped off during the Tree Lighting event.

A clever innovation makes these jeans a cinch to wear

It was while trying to track down another brand and style of jean entirely (the elusive J Brand Gigi) that I discovered Sold Design Lab and what has to be the most genius idea in denim ever: the pull-on jean. I was deeply sceptical, indeed fairly horrified, when the sales assistant introduced me to Sold's unique concept. It sounded like the jeans-world equivalent of the elasticated-waist skirt - even if Cameron Diaz has been spotted in a pair.

Not to be confused with the heinous jegging - leggings that look like tight jeans - Sold's designs are real jeans, made from soft, stretchy denim, but with one clever innovation: the fly-front zip is actually fake. So no need to breathe in, lie on the ground or resort to the coat hanger trick to get them to zip up. This jean does away entirely with that dispiritng struggle. The added bonus is that eradicating the zip makes for a more streamlined silhouette.

Sold jeans are available in various styles, all of them adhering to the pull on concept. I bought the Houston flare, a jean that flares out just below the knee, creating the illusion of longer legs. The style is very Ali McGraw in Love Story, immensely flattering and very on-trend this season. I was, as they say, sold.

I found him at an auction, cowering in the corner of a stall. He was 400lbs underweight and had been badly abused. Draco was terrified of people and had numerous wounds and sections of his coat and tail missing. I had never seen a horse in his condition. Though I was not looking for another horse, I couldn’t leave him at the auction, where certain bidders would be mean a death sentence: a slaughterhouse for horsemeat overseas. I bought the scared abused horse that day and took him to a farm in Connecticut.

My life also changed that day.

Though I had been riding for 20 years at the time, my background was show-jumping and I had never worked with abused horses. Draco’s condition was something I had never seen in person. I don’t know why I felt that I could help him, but somehow I knew I could. Certain professionals did not agree with me, and I was advised on a number of occasions to get rid of him. I was under no illusions about the abuse Draco had suffered. He would have been dangerous for most advanced riders because of his fear, but there was something special about our connection from the beginning.

I knew he would be ok.

After one year of patience, consistency, respect, and trust, Draco was unrecognizable as the same horse. After five years, I would confidently put a child on him. Draco is safe, trusting, incredibly friendly, and is currently residing on a beautiful small farm in Connecticut. I still ride him a few times a week, as time and weather permits. There will always be memories of the abuse (and I am still careful with certain areas on his face), but Draco is more than simply ok now. He is the most talented, athletic, joyful horse I have ever worked with. He has inspired everything I am doing in my life.

Carisa Brambles

LA -based Fashion Designer founded Nightcap Clothing Company in 2006. Her collection continues to grow and flourish among over hundreds of boutiques and department stores worldwide. Brambles just opened her first store at 1225 Abbot Kinney Blvd, Venice CA. Carisa has been an avid equestrian rider since she was a child, and has an incredibly strong affection for horses. She is selling beautifully framed, one of a kind horse photographs and twenty percent of the proceeds go to benefit the wild horses. All of the photography was done by Carisa herself and the frames were all handmade by her husband, Chris. Her horse, Lamour is featured in the photographs as well.

Angora Sweaters are gorgeous, luxurious and comfortable. So you love Angora but hate that is sheds on your pants or your date’s couch? No worries, here is the tip that you will change your love/hate relationship with Angora forever!

Wrap your sweater in wax paper and then slip it into a freezer bag, place it in your freezer overnight. Feel free to make space for it by finishing the ice cream; it is for a noble cause after all. Then when you are ready to get dressed, take it out and put it on. It will warm up in minutes but the shed issue will be eliminated.
